It’s hard to believe that we are already in the last month of 2017. Where did the year go? I suspect many of you are like me in wondering how the year flew by so quickly. You may be realizing, that one non-urgent, but important, item that you promised to address this year hasn’t yet been completed, and now you are on a mad rush to get it done.
For me, it was completing those pesky Power of Attorney forms for my daughter who turned 18 this year and headed off to college. For others, it may be making those catch-up retirement contributions, harvesting capital losses to reduce taxes, or making tax-free gifts as part of your estate plan. Or, perhaps it is less about year-end financial matters and more those that are more long term, such as finally getting that much needed health care check up that you have been avoiding, addressing your long term care insurance needs, or revisiting your estate plan.
Regardless of what you are rushing to get done before the end of the year, please don’t neglect what is most important; spending time with your family and friends during this treasured holiday season. Take time outside of the day to day busyness of life, slow down, and spend that special time with those who are most important to you. For we can never take for granted that circumstances may not change, and those who are closest and mean the most to us in our life may not be there to share the next wonderful holiday season. After all, there is always next year to get those important things done.
