I recently graduated from Eastern Michigan University and am currently working in the Assurance department.
I was surprised at how positive the work environment was my first week at Clayton & McKervey. Everyone was eager to introduce themselves and treat you as an equal. The first week a shareholder is partnered with the new hires and they go out to lunch together which I thought was really cool. It was interesting to hear about the history C&M and receive advice going forward as a new hire at the firm.
The scope of the training is extensive but it is taught in a way that is well organized and understandable. During training they go through practice sets that are close to real engagements to give everyone hands on experience. After it ended I felt that I had a solid grasp of the software and procedures that will be implemented during engagements. The training environment is pressure free and they don’t expect you to know everything your first few weeks. Clayton & McKervey has an open door policy and I feel comfortable going to any of my coworkers and asking questions no matter what they are.
I am looking forward to starting my first engagements preparing statements and returns for clients. I am also excited to get to know the people I work with better!
Some of my favorite things about working at Clayton & McKervey is how they don’t expect you to know everything right away. The amount of information is overwhelming but questions are encouraged! There are also many trainings the first month to ease you into things. They delegate work to you immediately so you can begin gaining hands on experience your first few weeks. They also have a coffee machine that makes about 20 different types of coffee!
My most memorable moment working here is when the elevators were shut down for maintenance. A co-worker and I had to take 18 flights of stairs to get to the office and by the time we made it to the top the elevators were working again.
Overall my first month has been great at Clayton & McKervey. I like the people I work with. A big group of us always goes to lunch together. You get to know many different types of people with different interests and hobbies. The office is big, but for the most part everyone knows everyone and if they don’t they make an effort to get to know you.
