Week 1

The first thing that jumped out at me about Clayton & McKervey through the interview process was the friendly feel. I knew that post-graduation a smaller firm would probably fit me better and allow me to really build relationships with coworkers as well as my superiors. This is what brought me to C & M.

Through the first week, it is every bit as friendly and welcoming as I could have hoped for. Everyone has been very helpful answering any questions I come across (and there have been a lot). I’m not sure that I expected to walk into an environment as welcoming and helpful as C & M at first, but definitely will not complain one bit about it.

The biggest surprise to me was what I mentioned above. Being welcomed in with open arms was a very pleasant surprise. Starting a new job can be very intimidating, but everyone here has done a great job helping to make it a smooth transition.

What I’m looking forward to most (other than learning all this new software) is getting to know everyone and starting my career. This is what all the time spent going to school has been preparing me for so it is exciting to be able to apply what I’ve learned this far and continue to grow and further my career.

Month 1

My experience so far at C & M has been great. Just a little over a month in and I already feel like I have learned a ton. A lot of that is thanks to everyone else being willing to help me out and explain things when I can’t figure something out. Between everyone being so welcoming and helpful this first month and feeling like I’m really learning and picking up on things, it really has been a great experience so far this first month.

What I’ve really enjoyed so far about working at C & M is the environment. It makes it a lot easier to come to work every day when it seems like others are happy to work at C & M as well. It also makes it very easy to go have conversations and get help from co-workers in such a welcoming environment.

My most memorable moment so far was probably the first time I had to go out for fieldwork. It was a great learning experience for me. I remember being lost and confused a good amount of the time but my coworkers, Scott and Jake really helped me out.

Overall, my first month has been a great experience. At times it’s been crazy trying to learn on the go and adapting to a new work environment. Getting so much thrown at me from day one was very stressful but slowly understanding and picking up on what was thrown at me is a great feeling.
